1. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT
The OSAP 7th Battalion was created vide Govt. of Odisha, Bhubaneswar Order No-OMP-74-75/355/P dated 04.01.1975 and became operational on 03.02.1975 with its temporary location at Laxmisagar, Bhubaneswar.
After completion of the construction work, the Battalion shifted to the present location at Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar. As per State Govt. Notification No. 60909/D&A Bhubaneswar dated 28.12.2007,the Battalion is functioningunder the Administrative Control of Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack.
Sri Bijay Kumar Sahu, OAPS (I),Dy. Commissioner of Police (Armed), OSAP 7th Bn, Bhubaneswar took over the charge of the Battalion on 01.08.2020.The strength of the Bn is 07 Companies including one Hdqrs. Company.However, presently, there are 05 service companies and one Head Quarter Company.
SANCTIONED STRENGTH OF THE BATTALION
The battalion is functioning with its sanctioned strength of 1249 personnel including Ministerial, Menial, Signal, Hospital staff. The present strength of the Battalion, however, is 1027with following organizational structure:

DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF OSAP 7TH BATTALION
DCP (Armed) is responsible for all matters relating to drill, discipline and proper functioning & performance of OSAP 7th Battalion. It performs multifarious nature of duties as per the details given below:
(i) Security Coverage at sensitive locations: The trained and efficient OSAP 7TH Battalion personnel are providing security coverage to sensitive installations including residence of Hon’ble C.M., Reserve Bank of India BBSR., Lingaraj Temple and BPSPA Magazine Guard.
(ii) Law and order: OSAP 7thBattalion Sepoys are deployed in many places for Law & Order duties and in PCR Vans under different Police Stations. The discipline and smart turn out of OSAP 7th Battalion is the centre of attraction in all the Ceremonial Parades.
(iii) ODRAF UNIT: One ODRAF Unit is functioning under this Battalion, which is in readiness 24 x 7 for relief and rescue operations during accident and natural calamities.
WELFARE ACTIVITIES OF THE BATTALION: The following welfare institutions are functioning inside the Battalion premises.
(i) CANTEENS: One Subsidiary Canteen is functioning in this Bn. since 13.09.2018 where all the stationery, grocery and house hold items are available at reasonable price. Besides, one wet canteen is functioning inside the Bn. Premises where the force and their family members are availing the facility of getting the snacks in reasonable price.
(ii) OPEN AIR AND INDOOR GYM: In order to enable force personnel to maintain fitness standards, open air and indoor Gymnasiums with ultra modern Gymnasium equipment have been established within the Bn. premises. Force personnel and their family members are availing maximum benefits out of these Gymnasiums.
(iii) FAMILY WELFARE CENTRE: Trained tailors teach stitching to family members of the 7thBn. Police personnel who in turn get an opportunity to earn money by undertaking stitching work,besides getting opportunity to interact and bond with each other.
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT
The Special Security Battalion was created vide Govt. of Odisha, Home Department Letter No.PDA-11-90/2008/6919 dtd.10.02.2009 and became operational w.e.f. 25.03.2009 with its temporary headquarters at the office of Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, Bhubaneswar.
Government of Odisha has allotted 80 (eighty) acres of land in mouza Jamujhari for establishment of the Special Security Battalion. As per the master plan construction of Administrative Building, Armoury Building, 02 Nos. of 100 men building barrack, dining-cum-Kitchen Hall and JCO’s Mess have already been completed.

The battalion has a sanctioned strength of 1152 personnel including Signal, Menials, Hospital and Ministerial Staff and has organizational structure as follows:

DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF SPECIAL SECURITY BATTALION
DCP (Security) is responsible for all matters relating to Drill, Discipline and proper functioning & performance of Special Security Battalion. It performs multifarious nature of duties as per the details given below:
(i) Trained personnel of Special Security Battalion are providing security coverage to vital installations like Hon’ble C.M. residence, Rajbhawan, Lokseva Bhawan, Kharvela Bhawan Security, Odisha Legislative Assembly and Odisha High Court.
(ii) Special Security Battalion has been deployed at various nationalized Banks in Bhubaneswar city and in PCR duties under different Police Stations. It also performs law & order duties especially during religious functions in Commissionerate Police jurisdiction.The discipline and smart turn out of Special Security Battalion is showcased unfailingly in State Level Republic Day Parade & State Level Independence Day Parade in Bhubaneswar.
(iii) Special Security Battalion is providing security coverage to VVIPs & dignitaries within the State and those visiting the State from rest of India.

(iv) One Counter Terrorist Squad (CTS) has been created with a purpose to check the Anti-terrorist activities in Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate area. They are in readiness 24 x 7 to rush to the spot in minimum response time. Provided with sophisticated arms, the CTS team is doing different mock drill in coordination with STU (SOG)/NSG in vital installation like Airport, Railway Station, Doordarshan Centre and big commercial malls at regular intervals against any possible terror attacks.

Duties and responsibilities of Armed Police Reserve (APR)
Armed Police Reserve (APR) have been sanctioned for Cuttack and Bhubaneswar Urban Police Districts. They function directly under the supervision of Reserve Inspectors. Their main responsibilities include handling of law & order problems, besides other miscellaneous duties. They remain in readiness for 24-hours a day at Reserve Police Lines to meet any emergent situations. Some of the major responsibilities of Armed Police Reserve are as follows:
- Attending to law & order problems
- Escorting Under Trial Prisoners (UTPs) from jail to Court and vice versa
- Providing security coverage to vital installations
- Escort of cash from Reserve Bank of India to various banks and vice versa
- Assisting police station staff in conducting raids etc.
