Mahila Police Stations were established to provide a sense of security to women and girl children and to specifically investigate into cases relating to crime against women like dowry death, dowry torture, non-dowry torture, rape, Kidnapping/abduction, outraging of modesty of women, eve-teasing etc. In addition, they were mandated to enquire into all petitions preferred by women or on behalf of women. The jurisdiction of Mahila Police Station of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are co-terminus with the entire Urban Police Districts except Chandaka, Balianta, Balipatana and Jatni Police Stations of Bhubaneswar Urban Police District and Choudwar, Barang, Sadar and Jagatpur Police Stations of Cuttack Urban Police District.
This arrangement was done considering the fact that rural and semi-urban Police Stations are situated at a considerable distance from the respective Mahila Police Station and complainants travelling from these areas to Mahila Police Station for registration of cases would have entailed personal hardship and expenses besides being time consuming. However,
subsequent upon registration of case in Police Stations, other than Mahila Police Stations, the cases may be transferred to Mahila Police Station on the point of convenience and/or request of victims or their family members.
Mahila Police Stations, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack like any other Police Stations of Police Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack are open all 24 hours. One officer in the rank of SI/ASI is available as Diary Charge Officer (DCO) throughout day/night.
