Establishment of Mahila Police Stations in Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack.
Mahila Police Station, Cuttack came to existence w.e.f. 01.04.1994 vide SP Hdqrs. O.O. No. 896/F dtd. 29.03.1994 and has been functioning at Buxibazar (near Reserve Office, Cuttack Urban Police District). Mahila Police Station, Bhubaneswar was established vide Home Department Notification No.3262/D & A dtd. 15.01.2001 and commenced functioning from 04.08.2002 at Quarter No. VIII-C-11, Unit-I, Bhubaneswar
Aim and objective of Mahila Police Station
Mahila Police Stations were established to provide a sense of security to women and girl children and to specifically investigate into cases relating to crime against women like dowry death, dowry torture, non-dowry torture, rape, Kidnapping/abduction, outraging of modesty of women, eve-teasing etc. In addition, they were mandated to enquire into all petitions preferred by women or on behalf of women. The staff of Mahila Police Station were entrusted with responsibilities to actively intervene to sort out petty differences within the family with the aim of restoration of family ties, instead of resorting to immediate registration of cases on receipt of complaints.

Jurisdiction
The jurisdiction of Mahila Police Station of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are co-terminus with the entire Urban Police Districts except Chandaka, Balianta, Balipatana and Jatni Police Stations of Bhubaneswar Urban Police District and Choudwar, Barang, Sadar and Jagatpur Police Stations of Cuttack Urban Police District.
This arrangement was done considering the fact that rural and semi-urban Police Stations are situated at a considerable distance from the respective Mahila Police Station and complainants travelling from these areas to Mahila Police Station for registration of cases would have entailed personal hardship and expenses besides being time consuming. However,
subsequent upon registration of case in Police Stations, other than Mahila Police Stations, the cases may be transferred to Mahila Police Station on the point of convenience and/or request of victims or their family members.
Mahila Police Stations, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack like any other Police Stations of Police Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack are open all 24 hours. One officer in the rank of SI/ASI is available as Diary Charge Officer (DCO) throughout day/night.
The staff of Mahila P.S. of both Cuttack and Bhubaneswar Urban districts have been actively engaged in amicably settling family disputes through counselling sessions and are thus contributing towards restoring family ties, marital peace and harmony.
