Major Case Convictions-Cuttack

  1. CONVICTION IN A CASE OF DARING ROBBERY On 12.12.2009 at about 8.50 PM, while Sri Rajesh Agrawal of Choudhary Bazar, Cuttack was proceeding from Malgodown to Kazibazar in his motorcycle with cash of Rs.8,05,000/-, he was intercepted by some unknown culprits who assaulted him and robbed away the cash and motorcycle. The aforecited crime was registered as Mangalabag PS Case No.200 dtd. 12.12.2009 u/s 394 IPC. In a prompt and meticulous investigation, cash to the tune of Rs. 7,20,000/- alongwith the stolen motorcycle was recovered. The case was chargesheeted against seven accused persons.In a judgment dtd. 21.04.2011, the Hon’ble Addl. Chief Judicial Magistrate (Spl.)-cum-Asst. sessions Judge, Cuttack convicted three accused namely Banti @ Birendra Kumar Kamale, Babuna @ Balaram Sahu and Naba @ Nabaghana Behera u/s 392 IPC to undergo R.I for a period of 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs.5,000/- each.
  2. FATHER GETS LIFER FOR KILLING HIS TODDLER DAUGHTER On 28.5.2009 night, accused Pramod Rout @ Bombay brutally murdered his eleven-month old daughter Papali @ Manisha Rout by slashing her throat with a sickle. In this connection, Sadar PS Case No. 98 dtd. 29.5.2009 u/s 302 IPC was registered and investigated into. During course of investigation, the accused father was arrested, weapon of offence recovered and the case chargesheeted.In its landmark judgement dtd. 25.9.2011, Hon’ble District & Sessions Judge, Cuttack terming the case as “rarest of rare cases”, sentenced accused Pramod Rout @ Bombay to undergo imprisonment for life with a fine INR 20,000/-.
  3. CONVICTION IN BLUE CD RACKET CASE On 18.8.2008 Ashima Mohanty, a 22 year old student of Mass Communication & Journalism committed suicide by hanging herself, after learning about circulation of CDs containing video of her intimate moments with her lover Pinua @ Astarang Sahu and after being subject to blackmail by the latter. In this connection, Madhupatna PS Case No.145 dtd. 21.8.2008 u/s 306/500/506/292(2)(a)/34 IPC r.w. 6 Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act was registered and investigated into. The investigation of the case was closely monitored by senior officers during which four accused including principal accused Pinua @ Astarang Sahu were arrested and forwarded to judicial custody.In its judgement dtd. 31.1.2011, the Hon’ble Adhoc Addl.Dist. & Sessions Judge, FTC-IV, Cuttack convicted accused Pinua @ Astarang Sahu, Somu @ Amarish Sahu and Mansh Kumar Sahu to undergo rigorous imprisonment for seven years with a fine of INR 10,000/-, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years with fine of INR 2,000/- u/s 306 IPC and U/s 4 & 6 Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1996. Principal accused Pinu @ Astarang Sahu was also sentenced with fine of INR 5,000/- for offence u/s 417 IPC to serve the ends of justice.
