  POLICE VERIFICATIONS

PASSPORT VERIFICATION:
 
Passport applications are received in the Regional Passport Office. After due scrutiny, they are sent it in the prescribed form to the Office of DCP, Bhubaneswar/DCP, Cuttack as the case might be. The DIB section of the Office of DCP, Bhubaneswar/ Cuttack handles the passport applications and verifications. After processing the same, it sends it to the concerned P.S. having jurisdiction over the place where the concerned applicant is residing for necessary verification of the character and antecedents, for certifying the photograph of the applicant pasted in the original application as well as for verification of the permanent and present address of the applicant etc. After completing verification on the aforementioned counts and after being satisfied that the applicant has no past criminal record, police verification in the prescribed form is returned back to the Passport Office for necessary action.
SERVICE VERIFICATION:
 
Service Verifications of the applicants is conducted as per Police Manual Rule No.92 which reads as follows :
 
a.
those concerning candidates for employment in Government service or by a railway, when the application for enquiry, originates from a Government servant a responsible railway official, and
b.
those concerning candidates for employment by a local body or corporation, private company, firm or person. The officer-in-charge of a police station shall comply with applications under (a), but any falling under (b) shall, if received direct, be referred to the Superintendent.
 
Applications for verification falling under (a) will be addressed to the Superintendent (DCP) and, if accompanied by a fee of Rs.4 for each enquiry, will be forwarded by him to the officer-in-charge of police station concerned but if the application for verification of antecedents is made by a private company, firm or person, the Superintendent shall satisfy himself that it is a bona fide application before forwarding it to the police station for enquiry. Enquiries shall be made by an officer not below the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector and the file of discharge slips shall be consulted. The result of all enquiries shall be communicated by the officer-in-charge direct to the employer.
 
Fees received by the Superintendent (DCP) shall be deposited in the local treasury and credited under “XXIII-Police-Other Miscellaneous-Fees and Fines”. In district where such receipts are large, they may be deposited in lump sums under one chalan twice a month.”
 
Verification of character and antecedents is being conducted for such applicants whose applications are being received from different Govt Organizations. Applications from individuals for employment in the public and private sector are not being entertained if sent directly to the local DIB Unit, unless the same is routed through the concerned employer/organization/concerned authority.
