BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT

The Special Security Battalion was created vide Govt. of Orissa, Home Department Letter No.PDA-11-90/2008/6919 dtd. 10.02.2009 and become operational w.e.f. 25.03.09 with its temporary headquarters at the office of Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, Bhubaneswar.

Md. Zaheed OPS (I) has taken over as I/c DCP (Security) of the Police Commissionerate on 01.04.2010.

PURPOSE
The Special Security Battalion shall provide security coverage to various political dignitaries including MPs and MLAs, Senior Govt. Officers of the Centre and States and such other persons as decided by the State Government from time to time. It shall also provide security to vital installations.
