I extend my warm wishes and New Year's Greetings to the Citizens of twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and also to all the officers/men/women of Police Commissionerate.
Rapid growth in population, urbanisation and technological advancement have posed serious challenges for police. Police Commissionerate has adopted the policy of '0' tolerance towards crime particularly the crime against women, senior citizens and weaker sections of the society. Crime against property, drug abuse and traffic management are high on priority.
It gives me immense satisfaction to state that due to bold steps of Police Commissionerate in the year, 2016, organised crime could be demolished. Gangsters, criminals, tender mafias and anti-socials could be arrested in large number and are now confined to judicial custody. Record number of fire arms, ammunition, narcotic drugs, ill-gotten cash and other properties were seized. This was possible only due to sustained support and assistance from the general public. We will further intensify our efforts to win confidence and trust of the general public by frequent police-public interface, interaction with senior citizens, students and various other stakeholders.
Modern Police Control Room in Bhubaneswar is receiving on an average 2000 calls from the citizens on each day. It is responding to such calls by deputing PCR vans as first responders. Efforts to further strengthen the system in Bhubaneswar and install similar system in Cuttack are in progress. Training of traffic personnel by experts of IRTE, Faridabad, introduction of laser fitted mobile patrolling on NH-16 to check speeding, Road Safety Audit between Pitapali and OMP Square have contributed to better traffic management. Traffic Management in twin cities would further improve with commissioning of Integrated Automatic Electronic Traffic Signalling System (52 intersections) in Bhubaneswar and Automatic Electronic Traffic Signalling System (10 intersections) in Cuttack city. Implementation of "Student Traffic Volunteer Scheme" would improve awareness on Road Safety issues.
I appeal to all the members of Police Commissionerate to discharge their duties with high standard of integrity, honesty and sense of commitment. I also appeal to the general public to join hands with us in making the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack safe and secure.
